Join The Riveredge School family!

All children, regardless of home school district, specific needs, or income, are eligible for this tuition-free public school.  Riveredge Outdoor Learning Elementary School serves students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade.  The public elementary charter school is authorized by the Northern Ozaukee School District.

Our school’s natural setting at Riveredge Nature Center is open to the public.  Trails are open daily from dawn to dusk.  Please contact us at ROLES@nosd.edu if interested in an in person tour of our school.

Important basic information for the 2023-24 school year!

Monday through Thursday is in person instruction at Riveredge Nature Center.  Drop off is between 8:20 and 8:30 a.m.  After school pick up is between 3:35 and 3:45 p.m.  Fridays consist of virtual instruction off-campus.  Virtual instruction includes a virtual all school topic meeting and independent schoolwork and activities.  Many PTO sponsored clubs/events are offered on Friday afternoons, such as Ski Club at Sunburst in January, Rock Climbing Club, and Archery Club.  Some schoolwork and activities are online and some are traditional paper/pencil.  Our focus continues to be high quality in person, nature-based outdoor learning.

LOTTERY AND WAITLIST RESULTS: 2023-24

All families of students from Preference Groups 2-4 and New Applicants included in the lottery have received individualized emails with their student’s seat offer, waitlist number, or denial information.  Families that receive seat offers for available seats or waitlist numbers may find this reference helpful to review a variety of scenarios. FAQs: Lottery and EnrollmentResults reflect changes (enrollment, communications, and after reviewal) that occurred after the lottery on May 11th.

STEPS TO APPLY FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR – Alternative Enrollment Procedure (available after 7/1/23 and during the school year):

1. After exploring our website including the three pillars, our mission, family resources, and FAQs, contact us with any additional questions.  View the 2023-24 Lottery and Waitlist Results  for the most recent updates regarding grade level openings throughout the summer and school year.

2. Complete a 2023-24 Enrollment Application for each child and return it to ROLES in person, via email (ROLES@nosd.edu) or via mail as soon as possible.  Paper copies of the ROLES application are available in the ROLES office at Riveredge Nature Center.

3. (Only for families who DO NOT live in the Northern Ozaukee School District)  If you are a family who does not live in the Northern Ozaukee School District and are open-enrolling to the system, you must complete the Alternative Open Enrollment Application through the Department of Public Instruction.  This application can be accessed at: https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment.  This application is available after July 1, 2023.  Applications may take about 20 days to process between the resident district and NOSD.  Students must be cleared through this process before attending ROLES.

2023-24 SCHOOL CALENDAR – Approved by the Governance Council on 3/23/23.

IMPORTANT: BOTH the ROLES application and online open enrollment application must be completed, processed, and approved before the student is allowed to register to attend ROLES!

New 2023-24 Applicants after the lottery (May 2023) are considered Interested Families.  These students would be contacted only if a seat becomes available at a grade level and all waitlist students pass on the seat.  Any applications received after the lottery will not be listed on our 2023-24 Lottery and Waitlist Results.

4K Nature-Based Program on RNC grounds

This nature-based 4K program that Riveredge Nature Center partners with the West Bend School District (WBSD) and Kettle Moraine YMCA, is run for children who are 4 years old before September 1st.  The program takes place based out of the Coop, located on the Riveredge Nature Center grounds.  There are multiple sections of this program.  Enrollment is handled by WBSD.  Non resident families of the West Bend School District must apply for open enrollment into WBSD.  For more information, please visit:

Although both Riveredge Outdoor Learning Elementary School and the 4K Nature-Based Program take place on the Riveredge Nature Center grounds, they are affiliated with different public school districts.

Riveredge Outdoor Learning Elementary School – grades Kindergarten through 5th – Northern Ozaukee School District (NOSD).  Maximum of 18 students per grade level.

4K Nature-Based Early Learning Program – grade 4K only – West Bend School District (WBSD).  Multiple sessions with 18-20 students maximum per session.
